Abstracted Figurative Wood Sculptures
Students studied Greek and Roman figurative sculpture and completed many sessions of gesture drawings, using fellow students as models. Then they looked at more modern abstracted sculptures, like "Woman With Her Throat Cut". They were able to select many small pieces of wood and assemble their own figurative sculpture, then painting it one solid color for unity.

Paper Mache Masks
Paper Mache African mask Lesson:
"Are my paint lines clean?"
" Can I see the newspaper through the paint?"
" If I fold my mask does it bend?"
"Did I bring any items from home to decorate it?"
They will hand these papers in as a ticket out the door.
Self Assessment:
Students will be given a ticket with questions on it relating back to the original ideas of craftsmanship such as"Are my paint lines clean?"
